Ingredients

For the cake:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
    1 cup milk
    2 large eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 cup mixed berry compote
For the drippings:
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate (chopped)
    1/2 cup whipped cream
For the garnish:
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.)
    Icing sugar
    Mint leaves

Instructions

Prepare the cake:

Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Beat butter until fluffy, then add liquid ingredients. In a large bowl, beat softened butter until fluffy. Add milk, eggs, and vanilla extract and mix well. Mix the ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until everything is well combined.

Bake the cake: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared tins. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the tin, then transfer to a wire rack.

Prepare the chocolate drippings.

Heat the cream: Place the cream in a small saucepan and heat until it begins to boil. Prepare the chocolate: Place chopped chocolate in a heat-proof bowl. Pour the warm cream over the chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes.

Stir until smooth: Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

Assemble the cake:

Layer the cake: Place one cake layer on a plate. Spread half of the mixed berry compote on top. Place the second cake layer on top.
Spread the compote: Spread the remaining berry compote over the entire cake.
Add the chocolate drizzle: Pour the chocolate ganache over the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Decorate and serve:

Decorate: Top the cake with fresh berries, sprinkle with powdered sugar and add mint leaves.
Slice and enjoy: Slice the cake and enjoy the blend of flavors.
