Texas Toast Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
- 1 small chopped onion (about 1 cup)
1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken)
1 cup barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy)
6 slices Texas Garlic Bread
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
Texas Toast Sloppy Joes
Directions
Chop 1 small onion and finely chop. Place the onion and 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken) in a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion is soft and translucent, allowing excess fat to render off.
Add 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce to the cooked ground beef and onion. I use Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce because it’s a little strong, but feel free to use your favorite sauce. Stir well to evenly coat the meat.
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and place 6 slices of frozen garlic bread on top. Cook for 5-8 minutes until lightly toasted.
Remove the toasted garlic bread from the oven. Spoon the slug-joe mixture onto each slice of garlic bread, spreading it out evenly. Top each slug joe with sharp cheddar cheese.
Return the loaded thru-jaw to the oven and bake for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
